Suzanne ColsonSuzanne Colson

With over 25 years experience supporting breastfeeding mothers in both acute and community settings, Suzanne is an honorary member and founding mother/leader of La Leche League France.  She worked as a breastfeeding consultant with Dr. Michel Odent at Pithiviers State Hospital (France), a caseload midwife to French-speaking asylum seekers and as a midwife/baby feeding advisor in North London Hospitals where she was seconded to work on the Williams, Hawdon and DeRooy team examining the effects of supplementation on metabolic adaptation and breastfeeding.  Her MSc dissertation examining outcomes for 12 moderately preterm and small for gestational age babies reported how biological nurturing, a newly developed approach to breastfeeding. was first articulated;  This work was awarded distinction in 2000 and first disseminated at the ICM conference (2002) in Austria.  It was subsequently published in a MIDIRS original research paper form Currently a senior lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University, she was awarded a doctorate in 2006 for her work examining the mechanisms of biological nurturing,  The thesis received the inaugural Akinsanya award for originality in doctoral work.  A research paper ‘Optimal positions releasing primitive neonatal reflexes stimulating breastfeeding’ is in press.

philPhil Parrett, BSc, IBCLC, is mother of 4 breastfed babies.  She worked and qualified as a Chartered Structural Engineer. Following the birth of her first baby she trained as an NCT breastfeeding counsellor. She then became a lactation consultant and now works solely in the world of breastfeeding. Alongside her NCT work she provides support to mothers and staff in East Kent hospitals, on the postnatal ward and in the community. She has developed and run peer supporter programmes for Ashford Sure Start.  In 2005 East Kent Hospitals Trust awarded her second prize in the Individual Achievement and Contribution at Work Award for her work on breastfeeding. JoelleJoelle Dufur is a breastfeeding mum who breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months.  She has trained as a peer supporter and is a La Leche League leader for the Folkestone group and a play link play worker. She is also the main distributor of the nurturing booklet "Mother~Baby Experiences of Nurturing", first published in 2001 of which over 8000 copies have been distributed and/or sold in South East Kent. BethBeth Svarovska enjoys breastfeeding her daughter. As an associate of the Nurturing Project, Beth specialises in communications, drawing on ten years experience in scientific and technical marketing. A graduate of New Hall, Cambridge University, Beth is currently training as a breastfeeding counsellor.
